Paver Patios & Hardscapes in Tacoma & the South Sound
The stone stays where you put it — or it doesn't. Summit builds paver patios, walkways, retaining walls and gravel paths on a base prepped to hold up to South Sound winters, so the finish still looks right years after the crew leaves.
What we build
Hardscape is the bones of a yard — the surfaces you walk, sit and drive on. Summit designs and builds:
- Paver patios & walkways — outdoor living surfaces laid on a compacted base with proper edge restraint and joint sand, so they stay flat and tight.
- Retaining & seating walls — walls that hold a slope or shape a space, engineered to drain instead of bowing out after a wet winter.
- Gravel & steppingstone paths — defined, low-maintenance routes through beds and side yards, edged in natural stone.
- Base & drainage work — excavation, compacted crushed rock, geotextile and the drainage details that decide whether a hardscape lasts.
- Stone edging & borders — the clean lines between hardscape, bed and lawn that make the whole yard read as intentional.
- Path lighting & fire features — low-voltage lighting and fire elements to finish an outdoor living space.
The part cheap installs skip
A paver patio is only as good as what's under it. The failures you see around the South Sound — sunken corners, heaved joints, walls leaning into the yard — almost always trace back to a base that was rushed. Summit spends the time where it doesn't show: excavating to depth, laying and compacting crushed rock in lifts, setting a geotextile barrier, screeding a true bedding layer, and locking the field with edge restraint before the first joint is swept.
Our rain is the real test. We build drainage into the base and pitch surfaces to shed water, because standing water and freeze-thaw are what move stone in this climate. It's slower and it's more material up front — and it's the difference between a patio that looks the same in five years and one you're calling someone to re-lay.
You'll also get an honest quote. Hardscape pricing depends on materials and site access, so some estimates take a little longer to get right — and we tell you which yours is up front instead of quoting fast and changing it later.

BEFORE / AFTER

Across the South Sound
Summit works primarily across the South Sound and greater Pierce County — from Tacoma's north end through University Place, Fircrest and Lakewood, out to Puyallup and Sumner, and across the Narrows to Gig Harbor.
That's our home base, but we're not rigid about the map. When a customer needs us beyond our usual footprint, we're able to expand outside the area to help. So if you're in or around Pierce County — or a bit farther out — just ask; we'll let you know how we can serve your property rather than turn you away over a line on a map.
